A new play area has opened for families at Victory Terrace recreation ground in Fazeley, delivered through a £100,000 investment from Lichfield District Council's Community Infrastructure Levy fund.
The facility includes swings, slides, a wooden tower, boat and climbing wall, roundabout, interactive play panels, balancing beam, agility trail and accessible picnic bench.
How the project was funded
£99,454 of the funding came from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is collected from developers and reinvested into local infrastructure. A further £900 was allocated from unspent historic S106 funds, which must be spent in Fazeley parish.
Fazeley Town Council applied to Lichfield District Council for the CIL money during the funding round allocated at February 2026 Cabinet.
Council backing for long-sought facility
Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing & Local Plan, said: "This play area in Fazeley has been sought after by residents for a long time and I'm pleased that £100,000 of CIL money, which is given to us by developers across Lichfield District, has gone towards making it happen."
Councillor John Hill, Mayor of Fazeley and Fazeley district councillor, said: "We'd tried previously to secure CIL money for the Play Area Project but didn't quite meet the criteria. Rather than abandoning the project, Alex and I decided to give it another go and I was overjoyed when the news came through that our application had been approved."
Wider council investment in local facilities
The Fazeley play area is part of the council's wider investment of more than £1 million of CIL funding in local facilities and infrastructure. These include £200,000 to Chasetown Football Club towards the delivery of the Changing Room project, £3,000 to Wiggington and Hopwas Parish Council for the Hopwas defibrillator project, £75,000 to South Staffordshire College towards the delivery of the Lichfield College Art Gallery, and £105,000 to Burntwood Rugby Club for pitch enhancement and maintenance.
