Five hospitality businesses across Lichfield District have completed energy-saving improvements thanks to funding from Lichfield District Council's Energy Saving Scheme, which is supported by the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Almost £40,000 in grant funding was awarded to the five featured projects. The improvements are expected to deliver carbon savings of more than 22 tonnes each year while reducing businesses' energy bills.
Projects Completed
Blackbrook Barns, the Cathedral Hotel and Aspire Design have installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to generate their own renewable electricity. The George Hotel has installed heating and refrigeration optimisation measures to improve energy efficiency. The Hub at St Mary's has upgraded its lighting with new energy-efficient LED systems.
Council Support
More than £72,000 has been awarded through the council's Energy Saving Scheme in total, helping businesses across the district invest in practical improvements that reduce energy use and improve long-term sustainability.
Councillor Janice Silvester-Hall, Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Ecology and Climate Change, said the hospitality sector plays an important role in Lichfield District's economy and that targeted investment supports both local business and environmental goals.
Kevin Sharkey from Blackbrook Barns said the funding helped the venue invest in solar PV, reducing reliance on grid electricity and making the business more energy efficient and sustainable. He described the application process as straightforward and praised the support received from Lichfield District Council.
