Three outdoor floodlit padel courts will open at Beacon Park on Thursday 30 July 2026, introducing one of the UK's fastest-growing sports to Lichfield's most popular park.
The facility is owned by Lichfield District Council and managed by Active Lichfield District. It forms part of the council's investment in expanding leisure activities at Beacon Park, following the recent opening of Adventure Golf and joining existing walking routes, play areas and the Pavilion café.
How padel works and who can play
Padel combines elements of tennis and squash and is typically played as doubles. The game is fast-paced and sociable, with a learning curve suitable for players of all ages and abilities.
Councillor Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Major Projects at Lichfield District Council, said: "Padel has become one of the world's fastest-growing sports because it's fun, social and easy to learn, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you're picking up a racquet for the first time or already love the game, these fantastic new courts provide a brilliant place to play."
How to book and pricing
The three courts are open seven days a week on a pay-as-you-go basis with no membership required. Sessions are 60 minutes long, with floodlit evening play available.
Off-peak sessions cost £16 per hour and peak sessions cost £20 per hour. Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance through the Playtomic app. Players receive a secure digital entry code through the app to access the courts.

Beacon Park is within walking distance of Lichfield's historic city centre, allowing visitors to combine a game with independent shops, cafés, restaurants, heritage attractions and Lichfield Cathedral.
