Two of Lichfield's biggest development projects have been shortlisted for the RTPI West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence 2026. The Angel Croft scheme on Beacon Street and the new Lichfield Leisure Centre are both competing for regional recognition in the prestigious awards.
The Angel Croft project has transformed a derelict historic hotel into quality homes while preserving Lichfield's city centre heritage character. The development demonstrates how investment and thoughtful planning can breathe new life into neglected buildings in the town centre.
The Lichfield Leisure Centre, which opened earlier this year, has been shortlisted for its contribution to residents' health and wellbeing. The state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment in community amenities for local people.
Deputy Leader Councillor Andy Smith commented on the recognition: "Both developments show how thoughtful planning and investment can make a real difference to our communities." The awards reflect the quality of planning decisions being made in the district.
Winners of the RTPI West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence 2026 will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on 23 July. The results will determine which Lichfield projects receive regional honours for their planning and development achievements.
