Lichfield City Football Club has secured its long-term future after the council approved a 125-year lease for Brownsfield Park. The decision was made by cabinet on Tuesday and marks a major boost for one of the district's most valued community assets.
The football club has transformed Brownsfield Park into a thriving sports hub over more than a decade. The facility now welcomes over 1,000 local people every week, supported by hundreds of volunteers and more than £1 million in investment from the club and its supporters.
The council's decision is part of a wider Community Asset Transfer scheme designed to support trusted local organisations across Lichfield. As well as backing the football club, the council has approved a 25-year lease extension for Lichfield Garrick Theatre, which attracts over 150,000 visitors annually. Land at Coppy Nook Lane has also been transferred to Hammerwich Parish Council to improve recreational facilities in the area.
These long-term leases give community organisations the stability and confidence they need to continue investing in their facilities and services. For Lichfield residents, it means the continuation of vital local services and recreational opportunities that depend on these organisations thriving.
