Lichfield District Council, Staffordshire Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency carried out a joint vehicle inspection operation in Lichfield city centre on Friday 26 June. Officers checked 20 vehicles across Cross Keys, Bird Street and Birmingham Road to ensure they were roadworthy and properly insured.
Results of the operation
The checks resulted in one vehicle being immobilised. Five vehicles were prohibited from the road until repairs to tyres or anti-lock braking systems were completed. A further four vehicles received delayed prohibitions, allowing drivers to take them home for repairs but nowhere else.
Safety concerns
Councillor Richard Cox, the council's Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection, said the operation was part of the council's responsibility to keep people safe. "Unsafe vehicles can put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users at risk," he said.
