Plans for a new health centre in Burntwood have been formally submitted this week. The facility will be built on land off Milestone Way and is designed to consolidate local healthcare services currently spread across three separate locations.
The new health centre will replace Salters Meadow Health Centre, a temporary facility at Burntwood Leisure Centre, and the Darwin Medical Practice branch in Chasetown. It will also house NHS community-based health services, allowing teams to work more closely together and provide better coordinated care for residents.
Planning and next steps
Lichfield District Council will now consider the planning application. Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment during the consultation period.
The submission follows a collaborative effort between Staffordshire County Council, NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, and Entrust. The project remains on schedule according to targets shared with the public earlier this year.
If planning permission is granted, the next stage will be to obtain competitive prices from building contractors for construction of the health centre.
Council backing
Martin Murray, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said the submission is "fantastic news" and that the facility will be "an invaluable asset for years to come". Local county councillor Robin Hall has been actively engaged in community liaison throughout the project.
