Lichfield District Council has been shortlisted for two national awards in recognition of its rapid support for struggling residents. The council's new system now processes council tax support in as little as one day – a dramatic improvement from the previous timeframe of weeks. The speed-up uses real-time information to automatically update claims, meaning households receive financial help without having to repeatedly report changes to their circumstances.
The Benefits Team at Lichfield District Council has also been recognised for its work supporting thousands of residents facing financial hardship each year. The team goes beyond processing claims, working with housing services to prevent homelessness and attending community events to provide cost-of-living advice. Cabinet Member Rob Strachan said the nominations represent "fantastic recognition of the positive difference our teams make to residents every day."
Lichfield's award shortlistings come as part of a wider winning streak of national recognition. The council has previously been named Council of the Year at the iESE Awards and shortlisted at both the LGC Awards and MJ Awards. These accolades reflect the council's commitment to delivering effective services to local residents.
The IRRV Performance Awards 2026 will announce winners later this year. For Lichfield residents facing financial difficulties, the council's streamlined support systems mean access to council tax support and cost-of-living advice has never been faster.
