Lichfield District Council's Cabinet has approved more than £780,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding for 14 projects across the district. The money will be used to upgrade parks, sports facilities, schools and community spaces.
The funding comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy, generated through new development across the district. It allows the council to reinvest money from building projects into improvements that benefit residents in their everyday lives.
What projects will receive funding?
The 14 approved projects include:
- Improvements to Hopwas Community Park
- Refurbished play area and changing facilities at Shenstone Playing Fields
- Refurbished cricket pavilion at The Friary School
- Improvements to Drayton Bassett's BMX track and sports playing fields
- New floodlights and accessibility improvements at Lichfield Rugby Club
- Replacement practice nets at Elford Cricket Club
- Investment in community facilities including The Hub at St Mary's
Why is this funding important?
Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Plan, said the investment ensures communities benefit as the district grows. "These projects will improve local facilities, encourage healthier lifestyles and create places that people can enjoy for many years to come," he said.
Work on the projects is expected to begin over the coming months. The council will share updates as schemes progress and celebrate their completion with the communities they will benefit.
