Bowlers at Curborough Community Centre in Lichfield have received a £300 equipment donation from contractor Ascot Services. The gift includes a new set of indoor bowls and smaller-sized equipment designed to make the sport accessible to players of all abilities. The handover took place on Monday 22 June during the centre's popular weekly short mat bowls sessions.
The donation forms part of Lichfield District Council's 'Our Community Can' scheme, which ensures major construction projects deliver real benefits for local residents. Ascot Services is currently carrying out a £450,000 refurbishment of swimming pool changing facilities at Burntwood Leisure Centre and has already generated over £120,000 of social value for the area, including nearly £40,000 spent with local businesses.
Ania Kluk, Senior Centre Co-ordinator at Curborough, said the new equipment would "encourage greater participation by providing gear that is comfortable and accessible for players." The investment removes barriers that may have prevented people from enjoying the sport at the Lichfield centre.
The short mat bowls group meets every Monday from 10am to 12.30pm and welcomes new members. For information about joining, call Brian on 07858 042485. The accessible equipment means players of varying abilities can now participate comfortably in this popular weekly activity.
