Residents have joined a community celebration marking ten years since building work began at Sheasby Park on the former RAF Lichfield site in Fradley.

The anniversary event at Bellway’s sales centre brought neighbours and local families together for pizza, cake, face painting and football.

Work on the development began in 2016, with the first residents moving in the following year. Bellway says 397 homes have now been completed at the site off Common Lane.

Guests included young players from AFC Fradley Under 8s, whose teams are sponsored by the housebuilder.

Club chair Darren Peck said: “We’re really proud to be sponsored by Bellway. We’ve had a fantastic day celebrating the 10th anniversary with them.”

Sheasby Park resident Gareth Downie also took part. His daughter Larna has been selected for England Futsal Under 17s and has received support from Bellway, according to the supplied release.

Gareth said: “We’ve been part of the development for seven years now and we really feel part of the community here in Fradley.”

From airfield to neighbourhood

The development includes landscaped open space, a pond and wildlife habitats. Fradley Park Primary School opened there in September 2022.

Bellway says the layout of linear parks reflects the footprint of the former airfield’s runways. The company’s anniversary timeline also records community litter picks, school support and local football sponsorship during the development’s first decade.

Residents attending the celebration spoke about meeting neighbours and making friends locally. Kath Caddy said: “It’s nice to come together.”

The event marked the anniversary of work starting on the development, rather than ten years since every home or community facility opened.
